Farmers markets, themed bar crawls, popup food truck events, and Stroll the Street events are just a few of the many fun activities I have found while scrolling through Facebook looking for something to do on the weekend. When looking for fun local events, Facebook is always my go-to platform. If you’re a business that hosts events, this should be your go-to platform, too!

Check out the below steps you should take to make your event the talk of the town!

Create an eye-catching Facebook event banner

Most of the events I have chosen to click on drew me in using the banner image. Sometimes businesses use photos from their previous year’s event, which shows how much fun others had when attending. Others use cool or interesting words/phrases with clip art that create a sense of wonder and excitement about the event.

Once you decide on the graphic portion, you need to pick your text. You should include the name of the event and a few other key details, but don’t go overboard with the text because people might lose interest.

Create your Facebook event

Now, it’s time to get your event on the calendar! Facebook events are simple to make. All you need to do is go to your business’ page and click the “Events” tab. From here, you’ll choose “Create Event” then opt for either the “In-person” or “Online” option as the event type. Next, you need to fill out all the details for your event. In this section, the more detail the better! This is the information people will see when they want to learn more. Make sure you add the location of your event in the “Location” box. This will ensure your event displays in the right time zone. Lastly, you will need to add your banner image and any links you may have where people can purchase tickets online. Finally, it’s time to press “Publish” to make your event live!

Add co-hosts to your event

Once your event is created, you can see it on your page under the events tab. If you are hosting an event with another business or multiple other businesses, it is important to add them as a co-host. This means that your event will now appear on their business pages as well.

To add co-hosts, you will first need to edit the event. Once you press “Edit,” press “Next” until you get to the “Edit Details” section. Here, press “Event Settings,” then begin typing the page name in the “Co-host” box at the top of the screen. Don’t forget to press save! Any co-host you add will get a notification and will need to accept before the event is published to their page, so be sure to give them a heads up that the event invite is coming.

Boost your post for all to see

All your details are finalized, and the event is live! But how do you get the word out that your event is happening? Boosting your event is an easy and cost-efficient way to let people in the area know that your event is coming up soon. All you’ll need to do is click the “Boost” button on your event post. Double check the details, set the radius of your target audience, and pick some key interests that pertain to your event. You get to set your own campaign budget, so it can be as high or low as you would like it to be.

Add updates to your event page

Throughout the weeks leading up to the event, if times change, new vendors are added, or the weather looks like it may affect how the event is run, you can keep your attendees updated by posting updates to your event’s wall. To get here, click on the “Event” tab on your page. Then, click the title of the event you want to post to. You should see a “Discussion” tab at the top. Click that tab then press “Add a Post”. You will be able to add text, photos, videos, and more!
