Trade shows tend to require a lot of planning and prep work – international trade shows even more so. Read on for tips on preparing to participate in a trade show overseas.

1. Identify what you plan on showcasing at the trade show

Will you be advertising a service that you provide? New product lines? New branding? Or maybe spreading brand awareness?

 2. Attract potential clients and have them understand the product that you are advertising

Provide handouts with quality and accurate information about your business. Supply them in multiple languages to attract clients from all over the world; however, make sure the translation on them is accurate.

3. Prepare a budget

How much are you willing to spend for the entirety of the trade show? That includes booking the venue, securing a table, flights, passports/visas and products you plan on bringing to promote your company. Booking your table early usually guarantees cheaper pricing compared to booking last-minute. This can also help with securing a spot in a high-traffic area so you will be able to better promote yourself.

4. Start preparing as early as possible

Doing so will help you save money and may help prevent future headaches from disruptions in the process. As mentioned before, booking a table early will usually guarantee better pricing and a spot with higher foot traffic. Preparing early also gets you ready for the inevitable like shipping delays, product loss, or even quality issues.

5. Study the vendor list

Have you ever looked at a menu before going to a restaurant to get an idea of what you’d order? The same concept applies here: familiarizing yourself with the vendor list can help you target your future clients.

6. Identify potential partners and competition

An added benefit of preparing ahead of time allows you to research the companies that will be at the trade show. This is an opportunity to gain some perspective on which companies might be your competition and which ones you might want to pursue relationships with. Remember not to neglect the small guys! You may be surprised – they could be your best connection!

 7. Assemble your team

The most important step in preparing for a trade show overseas is choosing the right people to stand by your side. Prepare them for the trade show by making sure they understand your objectives and educate them so they can spread your business’ knowledge and expertise to others. This will enhance your networking opportunities by showing your future clients that you are knowledgeable in your industry and can provide answers to any questions they may have.

8. Enjoy the process

Have a game plan ready and allow yourself enough time to relax. If you prepare with all the above steps, you’ll be on the right track to make great new connections and push your company in the right direction!
