Imagine you landed a new gig to design a brand identity guide for an up-and-coming, high-end restaurant. The pressure is on. You have everything you need from the client; the look and feel of the restaurant, their clientele, what type of logo they would like, a base color scheme, etc. You start putting the pieces together and begin your preliminary research and design… but then you hit the dreaded creative block. Time is slipping away, and you have almost nothing to show for it. What do you do?! Well, you read on for a few tips that might just help you work through a seemingly dead end.
Free Your Mind
Whether it be a couple of hours or a full night’s rest, take some time to get away from anything creative and clear your mind. Often times, when you shift your focus to something other than the task at hand, the best ideas tend to just come to you.
Always Carry a Sketchbook
You never know when creativity will strike. It could happen on your way to work, while you’re having breakfast, or even when you’re binging your favorite tv show. If you always have a sketchbook on hand, you’ll always be ready for your next creative spark.
Take a Walk
Inspiration is all around you. Sometimes you need to get up from your workspace and take a walk. From the shape of a particular flower to the distinct architectural style of a building, something is bound to get those creative juices flowing.
Get Social
Again, inspiration is all around you; and a lot of times, it’s right at your fingertips. Social media sites like Pinterest, Instagram, and even TikTok are great creative resources and can really help get the gears turning.
Exercise Your Brain
If you’re having trouble in the creative world, try something on the opposite spectrum… and opposite side of the brain. Try exercising the left brain by writing. Doing so will help ease your creative mind and allow ideas to come more easily.
