With the 2024 year rolling in, resolutions for the new year are coming with it! Just because we are trying new things doesn’t mean everything has to change. Our commitments to our jobs, schooling, and family will remain the same, and trying to find the balance between these can become exhausting.

As such, here are a few tips I use around the office that have helped take some of the pressure off. They even put some pep back in my step, especially on those seemingly never-ending days.

1. Drinking Water

From my catering days to the Marine Corps, even now, I will go to my grave proclaiming my love of energy drinks! They give you that energy boost I need when it is crucial. However, the drawback is that they leave me feeling dehydrated. So, I’ve started to incorporate drinking a bottle of water between energy drinks. It’s an age-old phrase that will forever hold true: water is vital to our bodies. What encourages me even more to consume water is having a stylish water bottle or tumbler! Also, my friends around the office help motivate each other to ensure we drink water. So, it’s like having someone to BOND with over H2O (LOL). Of course, you could incorporate tea or coffee instead of energy drinks, all of which have sugar-free varieties.

2. Resting Those Eyes

Getting at least 8 hours of sleep per night is recommended to wake up feeling fully refreshed. However, that’s not always possible if you have a busy schedule like mine. Some ways that I have come up with ways to help me get the rest that I deserve in order to get what I need to do done include:

  • Take an afternoon power nap during your lunch break.
  • Meditating for just 5-10 mins, either before or after work.

We make use of our eyes endlessly throughout the day, from driving to work, reading emails, and proofing posts. It doesn’t hurt to close them and give them a break. Not only will it allow you to get back to work feeling a bit better, but it also has shown signs of improving productivity and creativity.

3. Move Ya Body!

Sitting or standing in the same position for an extended period of time can be very harmful to your body, and remaining too stagnant in one position can even start to affect your work and the minor details. So, toss a stretch or two in there, whether you’re getting up to go to the bathroom or to take a lunch or water break. Not only does it allow your joints to wake up, but it can improve your motion and overall posture and help take off some of that stress that just comes from the day. Some of my friend’s favorite go-to stretches are:

  • Arm Extensions (either standing or sitting)
  • Squatting or Toe-Touches
  • Shoulder Rotations

With the new year, don’t be afraid to try something new! Your well-being is your company’s well-being! And they both matter!
