Being a kid around this time of year was always the best. Seeing family and friends, holiday parties, and SO many sweets! I remember my house was always filled with fresh baked cookies, holiday movies, and wood-burning fires that would warm my frozen fingers after a long day playing in the snow. Not to mention lots of happy, laughing people! As I get older, I notice the holidays are filled less with the fun activities I remember from childhood; however, there are some products I purchase every year that bring back these nostalgic memories. Below are a few of my favorites that always perfectly encompass the spirit of the holiday season!
Starbucks – A Cup of Cheer
Yes, your favorite holiday beverages are BACK at your local Starbucks along with some new ones! My most favorite holiday treat is a piping hot Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks. It reminds me of the peppermint bark and mint chocolate chip cookies my mom used to bake. One sip brings back memories of getting into baking wars – flour flying everywhere – eating more cookies than we were making and laughing the entire time. Starbucks doesn’t just stop with the taste of the holidays; they bring the looks too! Their red and green cups and tag lines like “Let the Fa La Las Begin” look festive and remind me of getting wrapped in a cozy blanket while singing holiday songs.
Bath & Body Works – Close Your Eyes & Believe
Pine branches, freshly fallen snow, and hot gingerbread cookies are just a few of the scents that come to mind this time of year. Bath & Body Works makes them a reality that’s too good to be true. From candles to air fresheners and everything in between, my home ALWAYS smells like the holidays after I stock up during their 12 Days of Christmas Sale. If I close my eyes after lighting the pine-scented candle, I can see myself and my family walking through a field of pine trees, scoping out the perfect one to cut down and bring home to decorate.
Chick-fil-A – Merry & Bright
You can always tell the holiday season is beginning when you’re watching TV and you see commercials for sales and the season’s best gifts. The past few years, I have found myself always watching one commercial all the way through. Chick-fil-A’s “The Time To Shop” & “The Spark” commercials give me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside that makes me wish I lived closer to my friends and family. They promote hope and togetherness during the holidays, which anybody missing their family around this time of year can relate to. Not to mention they end the commercial by hinting at buying the best gift of all… the gift of Chick-fil-A.
All I want for the holidays is to feel excitement again. I know I’ll be shopping and dining at these establishments this year, like every other, so I can taste, see, and smell the holidays like when I was a kid!
