Over the holidays, I got engaged. It was a ray of light in the darkness of this past year’s pandemic. My fiancé and I were so excited that we found and booked our dream venue the next day.

Despite easily finding a venue, we have had trouble finding other vendors we love just as much. After stalking 60+ photographers on The Knot, Wedding Wire, and other planning sites, I contacted a handful that I wanted to talk with further.

This decision wasn’t hard because there weren’t awesome photographers to choose from, but because in the past year, there have been so few weddings and events. Content on websites, social media profiles, and reviews were now outdated and old.

As a bride, I was turned off by the businesses that hadn’t kept these items up to date. How were they going to be in delivering my products/services if they couldn’t keep their online presence current? The marketer in me sees potential for improvement.

Here are some tips that businesses in the event industry should use to keep their online presence updated, even in a pandemic:

  1. Update Your Website Information and COVID-19 Policies
Your website houses the most important information: hours of operation, contact information, and now COVID-19 policies. Make sure that this information is easily accessible so potential clients can contact you with ease.
  2. Write Blogs
Don’t have any events for the next few weeks or have some downtime? Start a blog! Write about your industry, how you got into your career, trends, and more! Keep people informed in a fun way and let your personality shine through!
  3. Keep Taking Photographic Content
Whether you are shooting a small COVID-19 friendly event or catering a luncheon, always keep your camera or phone handy. You never know when the opportunity will present itself to get content that you can use for eblasts, social media, print materials, and more.
  4. Continue to Post on Social Media
The first place I go when I am looking for examples of someone’s work is social media. Having no presence on social media is almost as bad as having it and not using it. Make a posting schedule and plan ahead to make sure you have content going up. Haven’t had events recently? Post content from previous events. Who’s going to know? At least people can see you are monitoring your profiles.

While I continue my hunt for the perfect wedding vendors, I hope you take away the importance of keeping your digital presence up to date. Implementing these tips into your marketing efforts will help keep your online presence looking like the pandemic never existed!
